I think the main reason I probably never grab your icons, is because they are all clamp (OR MOSTLY CLAMP. I loved your Furuba ones and your occasional Ouran icons).
And we could all use work on our shading and lighting. Except those people who are artists offline and understand such concepts (i learned a lot of my shading from my artistic sister). :D
One thing I've found helpful is just watching real people and looking at where the shadows lay on them when faced with a certain kind of light. Even if it's just as you're walking to class, look at them (don't stare, that's rude). I think that's helped me learn how to do better with my lighting and my shading. I think the hardest part is learning how to blend the shadows in without making it too bold or too blah.

I never do text because I suck at it lulz.Thank you so much for the comment! The suggestion to
creep on peoplelook at the way light works in real life is a really good idea. I'll be sure to try that next time I make icons!
